Advice on CPD
opportunities – training programmes and events, supervised research, etc The Summary of Requirements are as follows: Currently, Members of the Institute holding a Licence are
required to undertake Continuing Professional Development (CPD). The CPD year
runs from 1st January to 31st December and a Licensed
Member is required to achieve two hours of CPD in each year. Licensed Members may suspend the CPD requirements, whilst
they are not practising, through illness or maternity leave, or they are
unemployed. It is not necessary to make an application for suspension to the
Institute, however, the reason for the suspension and the dates should be
entered onto the Personal Record Sheet. Activities
acceptable to meet the requirements In
order to meet the Institute’s requirements, all activities must be at an
appropriate level and contribute to the funeral director’s professional skill
and knowledge. The following are examples of the types of activities, which
would meet the requirements: 1.
Participation (ie preparing (providing it entail research), delivering
and/or attending) complete talks/courses of at least 30 minutes in length, which
are of particular relevance and benefit to an individual’s area of work. 2.
Writing books or articles for journals, which are of particular relevance
to the funeral profession. 3.
Research, which is of use beyond the individual’s own circumstances and
results in the production of written guidance (which can be produced upon
request). 4.
Production of a dissertation counting towards a qualification recognised
by the Institute’s Education Committee. 5.
Distance learning courses, delivered and received by correspondence,
video and audio cassettes, television or radio broadcasts and computer based
learning programmes, provided there is provision for the answering of enquires
or for discussion. 6.
Participating in the development of specialist areas of funeral practice
by attending meetings of specialist committees and/or working parties of
relevant competent bodies undertaking such work. 7.
Work towards the achievement of an NVQ in any area relating to the
funeral business and at any level. (From
